In the midst of much uncertainty and anxiety over learners returning to school today [June 1], Table View Primary welcomed their Grade 7 learners in a very special way.
All the teachers dressed up as superheroes, and even did an entertaining dance to the song ‘Superhero’ by Afrikaans band Eden to boost morale and ease the first-day jitters. The dance featured the principal, Mr Golie Gouws, strutting around in a Batman suit, while another staff member ran around as Spiderman, seemingly spraying everyone with sanitiser.
“Mr Gouws the principle is in the ‘rather tight fitting’ Batman suit. He says the kids are the real superheroes,” Twitter user Jenni Evans captioned the video.
Pictures of the learners and teachers on the school’s Facebook page show everyone fitted out in masks, learners standing the required 1.5m apart in rows and teachers taking their temperatures. The photos are captioned “#SuperHeroesWearMasks”.
“The school wanted to applaud the learners coming back to school, who might be nervous and scared. They are the real superheroes and we want to make this difficult time a little bit more bearable for them,” said Sue Akerman, marketer at the school.
