Monumental, majestic, and magnificent are just a few words to describe the mountains of the Western Cape.

Mountains are some of the most beautiful of nature’s structures. Towering and proud they stand against the sky, of such a size that they can catch entire city in their shadow.

Almost one billion people live in mountain areas, and over half the human population depend on mountains for water, food and clean energy.

International Mountain Day is on 11 December, and is your opportunity to head out and appreciate these unique landforms, and all they have to offer.

Locals know that very few mountains in the world come close to those of the Western Cape. From Table Mountain, Lions Head and Signal Hill to the Simonsberg mountains, the breathtaking views are picture worthy.
