Each year when the International Public Arts Festival (IPAF) takes part in the Mother City, the streets of Salt River come alive with art, beauty and creativity, bringing together people from all walks of life and this year is no different.
The IPAF theme for 2019 is ‘Generation Next: Educate, collaborate, empower’ and it is under this ethos that 14 renowned international and local artists will come together over 9 days to paint the town red.

Artists from Spain, Germany, the United States, Brazil and Mexico will join a number of our own local artists for the event. Taking their work very seriously, the creatives will focus not only on producing one-of-a-kind art live for attendees to behold but also on conveying important messages and addressing key issues in society through their pieces.
One of the primary goals of the festival is to empower individuals in realising the difference each and every person can make.
From February 9 to 17 art-lovers can attend live painting session starting each day at 10am and ending at 6pm, guests can also take part in street art tours running daily from 4.30pm.
The IPAF is the best way to get to know one of Cape Town’s most underrated suburbs (Salt River) while taking in amazing art and seeing the unique and intricate processes that go into bringing art from the confines of a gallery to the streets of the Mother City.
If you’re planning on attending be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and comfy walking shoes.
