Extremely hot conditions are expected over the interior of the West Coast district in the Western Cape. The Matzaikama Local Municipality is expected to experience a heat wave with extremely high temperatures throughout Monday.
Cape Town’s temperature is expected to rise to a high 31° with a minimum of 20°, with a slight westerly to south-westerly wind.
The South African Weather Service has encouraged members of the public to report any fires.
“In the case of a large fire report it immediately and move away from the area to let professionals deal with it,” SA Weather Service said.
Here are a few tips from the South African Weather Report
1. Do not create any open fires or leave fires unattended.
2. Do not throw cigarette butts out of cars or into the open veld areas.
3. Do not throw bottles in the veld as they can magnify the sun’s rays and start fires.
5. Prepare and maintain fire breaks in a controlled manner.
6. Never throw water into a fire started by an electrical fault or fires started by oil or paraffin lamps. In this case use sand or a blanket to smother the fire.
7. Be alert and listen to the radio or TV for warnings and obey the instructions form the disaster management officers.
