Rain and strong winds have blown through Cape Town, destroying property and flooding streets from Camps Bay to Kraaifontein. As the fierce weather continues today road-users are urged to travel with caution.
Power outages have affected Bellville, Phillip, Nyanga, Simon’s Town, Bonteheuwel, Manneberg, Crawford, Milnerton, Observatory and Thornton as a result of the adverse conditions. Various reasons for the power outages have been reported and technicians are working on the issues to try and restore power.
Approximately 200 informal dwellings have also been flooded and residents from Zwelini Drive, Wallcedene in Kraaifontein reported their roadway as flooded due to blocked drains yesterday afternoon. The Transport Department has been deployed to clear all blocked drains.
Temperatures are expected to keep dropping as cold and windy weather is forecast for the entire day on Wednesday July 24, and snow has been predicted for Western and Southern parts of the country, including the Western Cape.
In Blouberg yesterday winds reached a staggering speed, blowing furniture off patios and roofs off houses:
