When warmer weather makes its way to the Cape, locals always expect the water levels to drop, but many were still worried when the decision was made to lower water restriction from level 5 to level 3 in December 2018. The decision, as well as the summer heat, seems to be catching up with us as dam levels continue to drop at a higher rate than expected, with Theewaterskloof dam now standing below 50%.

Cape Town’s overall water storage is currently at 64.3%, edging closer and closer to the 50% mark but still far off from the all time low of 31.2% in 2017 at this time of the year.

Dams with the lowest storage levels are Theewaterskloof (49.7%) as well as both Steenbras Lower (66%) and Steenbras Upper (69.8%).

Berg River remains the fullest dam with a storage percentage of 87.9, followed by Voƫlvlei at 82.3%.

Weather forecasts do, however, have the Mother City receiving some rain this week with showers predicted for Friday and Saturday.
