With Heritage Day approaching on the 24th of September, it will provide Capetonians with the chance to unwind, spend time with their loved ones and celebrate being South African.
As the day is synonymous with ‘National Braai Day’, lounging by the pool or even just kicking back a cold one with friends, we have compiled a list of events to celebrate our national diversity this coming Heritage day.
Here are 5 Heritage day events
1.Beerhouse – Braai-off
There is no better way to celebrate Heritage Day than with an epic braai experience, head to Beerhouse and watch the braai and beer masters, Piet Marais and Murray Slater, alongside Greg and Carl from Beer Country. The masters will serve up three courses of canapes paired with Drifter brewing company and Lakeside Brewing Co. beer.

2. Delvera FALKE Full Moon Hike
Enjoy a night under the stars and set a blanket out at Klapmutskop with a 9,75-kilometer walk. Attendees will hike through the greater Simonsberg Conservancy and Yellow wood forest. The walk will start at the Trail Centre at Delvera Farm and it is advised to begin the trek before 4.30pm to ensure that you reach the final destination on time.
Tickets can be purchased from Dirtopia and it is essential to book. Tickets cost R100 per adult and R50 per child.

3. Farm feast at Boschendal Estate
Experience a full harvest table at the Boschedal Estate on Heritage Day. The food is served in long-table style, to encourage guest to get to know one another and provide a sense of community. Sit under the oak trees and enjoy the cool and fresh breeze while you feast away.
Live music will be available on the day along with pony rides for the kids at an additional cost. There is an array of entertainment for the children, from face painting to puppet shows.
Tickets for the three-course meal include a welcome glass of bubbly and are R550 per adult and R350 for children under the age of 10. Starting at 12.00 and going on until 5pm – guests are welcome to sit back and relax at the Boschendal Estate.

4. Heritage Day Party
Party into the public holiday at the Heritage Square event in partnership with HQ, Roast &Co., Cape Heritage Hotel with the open courtyard transformed into a hot spot for a good evening ahead.
Live performances by a diverse range of local musicians will be on offer, from Goodluck, Strange Loving to Crazy White Boy. Local DJs will take the stage to provide some good tunes, such as DJ’s Chris De Vos, Anthea Scholtz, Funky G and more.
The day will also include face painters, dancers, percussionists and much more.

The event starts at 4pm till late.

5. Lanzerac Hotel and Spa
In celebration of Heritage day and the relaunch of Lanzerac hotel and spa, the Lanzerac estate will host a special dining experience, showcasing a widely unique range of dishes.
Patrons will be welcomed with a bubbly glass of Lanzerac MCC and canapés while they explore the winelands and newly renovated areas. The day will host an artisanal gin pop up bar at the estate, guests can sit outside in the gardens and relax with a gin or Lanzerac wine in hand. There will be live music performed at the event such as CODA’S Africans saxophonist who will perform jazz tunes.
Tickets cost R650 per adult and R325 per child over the age of 6 years. It is inclusive of all food and drinks served at the event.

6. Heritage Day Radisson Blu
Wine and dine at the Radisson Blu located at the Waterfront this coming Heritage Day. The hotel offers a three-course braai buffet with live music on offer and a beautiful view of the ocean.
The braai buffet is South African inspired and there will be a variety of salads on offer, braai broodtjies and a wide array of braai meats such as boerewors, lamb chops, venison, chicken and line fish.
A dessert buffet will be provided to enjoy the day off on a sweet note. The buffet costs R395 per adult and children under five are welcome to the buffet free of charge.
Pensioners and children aged from 5-12 years will be charged R197.50 per person.
Each meal is accompanied with a Castle lite and if you book a table for four you receive a bucket of 8 Castel Lites.
