Flagstone Wines has launched its range of vegan-friendly wines aimed at discerning, eco-conscious wine-lovers around the world, with the addition of a brand new wine to its stable as the winery celebrates its 21st birthday.

Led by winemaker Gerhard Swart, one of the youngest winemakers to receive the General Smuts Trophy, Flagstone Wines today boasts a library of 25 different wines, many of which feature regularly at the local and global award circuit.

Speaking at the launch, Swart says: “My twelve years with Flagstone were supported by a passionate team of wonderful people, from the farmers and winery team that make the magic, to the clever folks in logistics and finance that make sure everything runs smoothly, and of course the wine lovers that make all of this possible. Here’s to another 21 years of being creative, making interesting and different wines, winning more awards and, above all, having fun doing it.”

Flagstone Wines has embraced a vegan-centred approach since 2019, removing animal-based fining agents from four of its popular varietals: the Free Run Sauvignon Blanc 2019, the Tributary Chenin Blanc 2019, the Treaty Tree Cab Malbec Merlot 2018, theTruth Tree Pinotage 2019 and the Free Run Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2019.

In addition, Swart and his team unveiled a brand new vegan-friendly wine at Thursday’s event, the Paradigm Chenin Blanc 2020.

Swart says the wines offer a journey with many twists and turns, enclosed in each bottle, waiting for wine-lovers to explore. “These wines will imbue your taste buds with the warmth, colour and vividness of the South African landscape. At the same time, your conscience will be permeated with the satisfaction of knowing that these wines are ethically sound and environmentally honourable.”

As a WIETA-accredited winery, Flagstone Wines place a commitment to sustainability at the heart of how its wine is produced, adopting an ethical value system and social accountability management model. This, together with increased consumer demand for transparency and accountability, continues to shape Flagstone Wines’ progress as a winery.
