#HighburyHearsYou – At Cape Town Etc, we are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.

With winter in full swing, there’s nothing better than snuggling up with a piping hot drink. If you’re the only person in your friend group that hasn’t been indoctrinated into Cape Town’s cult-like coffee culture, but the thought of drinking another cup of tea has you running to the bathroom, we’ve got you covered.

Here are four drinks that tick all the boxes: unique, not coffee, and most importantly, delicious.

Chaga Choc – Lexi’s Health Kitchen

If hot chocolate is your go-to drink, then you may love this little twist on the traditional beverage. Along with cacao powder, maca powder, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and coconut sugar, the special ingredient comes in the form of Chaga mushrooms. Chaga mushrooms have countless health benefits, including lowering blood sugar and boosting your immune system.

Pinotage Rooibos – The Electric

So, technically this is tea, but it’s the awesome kind! The Electric in Zonnebloem offers a range of delicious hot drinks, but there’s something intriguing about adding pinotage skins to your rooibos blend. Described as a “unique gluhwein-like” tea, this will (unfortunately) not get you drunk but will help you fight off winter’s chill.

Lunar Lullaby – Nourish’d Cafe

We promise that you won’t fall asleep after drinking this delicious brew, but you will walk out without a care in the world. Nourishd’s lunar lullaby adds a bit of tartness to your drink thanks to the lemon balm and lemon peel, while the chamomile and ashwagandha will help ease stress and anxiety. Ashwagandha has become particularly popular in Western cultures, thanks to its stress-relieving properties, and this drink will leave you feeling great – much better than coffee!

Golden Latte – The Conscious Kitchen

Along with being an anti-inflammatory, turmeric is well-known to boost your body’s immune system. It’s become somewhat of a golden child amongst health-conscious foodies, and this creamy golden latte infused with turmeric will definitely hit the spot.
