In accordance with early indicators of a busy 2019/2020 tourist season, the City of Cape Town expects a 30% increase in guests from the United Kingdom alone from December last year to March 2020. Due to this upturn, the holiday rental market has been especially busy this season.
According to Pam Golding Properties rental manager for the Cape Metro region, Dexter Leite, there are a few reasons why Cape Town’s holiday rentals are in such high demand. He attributes the rise in visitors to the fact that the City was recently named ‘World’s Best City’ by The Telegraph’s audiences.
In addition, he notes that “significantly improved dam levels, and the subsequent easing of water restrictions, has certainly led to renewed interest from overseas and local visitors wanting to spend time in Cape Town.”
Camps Bay seems to draw in large amounts of tourists as a stand-alone feature of the City. Rentals in the area are estimated to be between R30 000 and R36 000 per night. Pam Golding Properties rental specialist, Janine Sullivan, claims: “Camps Bay appeals because it really has everything – pristine beaches, upmarket restaurants and a host of outdoor activities. The beach is within easy walking distance and the popular V&A Waterfront is nearby. It is also an easy drive along the coast to Llandudno and Hout Bay.”
“With its enviable climate and spectacular beach and mountain views, living in Camps Bay feels like being on holiday, all year round,” she adds.
Sullivan says that those who opt for longer stays or off-peak stays are often “visitors from overseas who want to spend more time in Cape Town, or employees of international corporations that have offices in the city”.
Leite notes that there are other areas which are popular in the rental market too. The City Bowl and the Atlantic Seaboard bring tourists to the Cape almost as well as Camps Bay does, but each area is appealing for a different reason. For example, Fish Hoek and Glencairn are more likely to be chosen by families who want value-for-money options while Noordhoek comes with the appeal of a country lifestyle.
