Trevor Noah, 34, has been featured on the much coveted Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list for 2018. The Johannesburg-born comedian, actor and author has been making waves in America since he began hosting the Daily Show.

The TIME 100 list recognises powerful individuals for for changing the world. Zimbabwe’s new president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, was the second African who also featured on the list. You can browse through the full list here.

A record was set this year when 45 women, and 45 people under 40 were included on the list. The youngest is 14-year-old Milly Bobby Brown. TIME editor Edward Felsenthal said this 2018 list is a reflection that “influence increasingly knows no single zip code and no minimum age”.

Each of the personalities on the list gets a write-up by another equally prominent person. Noah’s was penned by fellow entertainer and friend, award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o. She is set to play the role of Noah’s mother in an upcoming film about his life.

“Trevor, who grew up biracial in apartheid South Africa, has the unique ability to tell truths that bring us together,” Nyong’o wrote in TIME. “He is uncannily skilled at holding up a mirror to whatever room he is in. Trevor is always reaching out: across cultures, continents and boundaries. He makes us laugh with each other and brings us that much closer to understanding one another.”
