Art.b Gallery, the Arts Association of Bellville, will present the Ceramic Expo from Wednesday, October 30 to Wednesday, November 20 this year. The exhibition, curated by designer and visual artist Zelda Weber, invited artists to submit works that mainly focus on ceramics, although mixed-media works were also accepted.
Weber, herself a well-known and accomplished artist, holds a Diploma in Ceramic Design and a Master’s Degree. As an artist, she rejects absolutist thinking and engages with a wide spectrum of ideas, beliefs and media.
Weber continues that ceramics as a medium demands patience, care and technique. “The theme celebrates ceramics as a medium and how it can be expressed through sculptures, installations, vessels and functional ware. The participating artists were invited to represent this medium in any vision they deemed appropriate. The gallery is the ideal venue due to its spacious interior that allows for small and large three-dimensional works to be displayed,” she concludes.
Participating artists will include celebrated artists such as Rae Goosen, John Bauer, Alessandro Pappada, Hannes van Zyl, Ineke Nicolle, Sonja Kastner and Yvonne Martin.
