The annual Waterblommetjie festival will be celebrated along the Boland winelands on 1 September 2018.
This event will showcase the sweet indigenous flower plant by infusing it with traditional cuisines such as the waterblommetjie bredie and waterblommetjie infused gin. The edible freshwater plant is only available during the cooler seasons and is a local favourite.
The celebrations will span across four winelands – from the Windmeul cellar, Rhebokskloof wine estate, Domaine Brahms to the Boland cellar. Each estate will provide their own unique interpretation of the waterblommetjie – from stews to ice cream and even waterblommetjie-infused gin.
All the wine estates are within a 5 kilometer radius of one another, making it easy for all festival-goers to experience each wine estate. Each venue will host live music, entertainment for the kids and provide delicious food options for the day along with their house wines.
Entry is free on the condition that festival-goers bring a donation of one tin of canned food per vehicle. All cans collected will go towards the Haven Night Shelter in Paarl.
Prizes and vouchers are up for grabs throughout the day as well as collectable stamps from all four participating wineries.
The Waterblommetjie Festival is a family affair and the perfect way to usher in the spring season.
