“Ain’t a woman alive that could take my mama’s place”- Tupac Shakur.

Where does one start when it comes to your mother? Well, I guess at the beginning. My mother has always been the most important person in my life, writes Cape Town Etc’s, Byron Lukas.

Being the youngest of three and “The baby,” my mother has always been there for me, throughout my darkest days to the days where we would know nothing but happiness. My mother is a gentle soul but commands authority around the household. My mother is someone who will always put the needs of our family first, even when she is suffering.

My mother is my biggest inspiration, she has supported me since day one. My mother is outspoken, someone who doesn’t have a filter, so bringing girls around the house always felt like a mountain to climb.

My mother is my rock, my confidant and even though I don’t consider myself a mommy’s boy, my mother is still the person I confide in, even today.

She is the person who never passes judgment even though I made many mistakes in the past, she’s always been there. My mother is all of the above. She is the person I consult before I make any important decisions in my life. There is a saying that goes, “What is a house without a mother”, I reflect on this past year and I’m reminded of all those who lost their queens, so if your mother is still around, whether she’s grumpy or arguing with you, appreciate her.

So as we embark on this MOTHER’S DAY I thank the man above that my mother is still around.
