Biblioteek Productions, AGL Opera and Youngblood Arts&Culture presents another of the very popular Opera in 1 Hour series, this time bringing The Old Maid and the Thief to the stage.
The hilarious one act masterpiece, originally composed for radio, tells a twisted tale of morals and “evil” womanly power. The Old Maid and the Thief will be performed by G.C. Menotti at the Youngblood Gallery in Cape Town and will feature a stellar Capetonian cast including Jacobi Benkenstein, Janel Jody-Ann Speelman and Shirley Sutherland .
A special family-version of the opera will be performed on the morning of Saturday November 23 to give young kids a chance to experience opera in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. As usual, the Hot Skillet restaurant will be open for dinner and drinks before and after the show.
Opera in 1 Hour is an innovative operatic addition to the Mother City music scene that follows the success of previous concert series by the same winning team of collaborators. The aim is to offer one-act operas or one-act adaptations of longer works, presented in new and creative contexts, using innovative resources and often placing them under a probing and relevant new light.
Evening performances on November 22 and 23 are at 8 pm and on November 23, the family friendly performance is at 10am.
Tickets cost R180 and are available at Quicket: https://qkt.io/O2AzKr or email [email protected]
