British singer-songwriting icon and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Yusuf/Cat Stevens will tour South Africa for the first time this November, performing atĀ Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden in Cape Town on Saturday, 11 November 2017.
The 50th Anniversary Tour brings fans the chance to witness a rock legend in three major South Africa cities, where Yusuf/Cat Stevens will have concert-goers overflowing with nostalgia with hits like Wild World, Moonshadow, Father and Son, Peace Train, and the much-loved Morning Has Broken, as well as songs from his new album.
Yusuf/Cat Steven’s long-time association with South African began all the way back in the early 70s. His worldwide hit, Can’t Keep It In held the number one spot in the South African national hit parade for six weeks in 1972. Yusuf/Cat Steven’s added African harmonies and traditional sounds to two of his major hits, Wild World and Peace Train in 2001/2, which he recorded with a local choir, the Incwenga Voices.
He performed Peace Train with the same choir at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg as part of the broadcast via satellite to a Stop the War Coalition event in London, featuring the likes of Coldplay and Ronan Keating. Yusuf/Cat Stevens returned to South Africa once again in November 2003 to perform Wild World, along with his former session player, Peter Gabriel as part of the Nelson Mandela’s 46664 concert line-up in Cape Town.
He returns to South Africa in November this year, but the anniversary tour brings the icon back to our country, but for his first ever tour.
Yusuf/Cat Stevens first found fame as a teenager in 1960s England, and has grown from being a teen idol into becoming one of the most influential singer-songwriters of all time. He is currently working on a children’s animation series and writing his autobiography, which is expected to surface next year.
Tickets go on sale on Monday 7 August from Computicket and will cost R850 per ticket.
