On Monday, April 12, Lufuno Mavhunga, a young school girl from Limpopo, tragically ended her own life. The tragedy occurred after a video of her being brutally bullied and beaten up at her Mbilwi High School in Limpopo went viral.

The video displayed the bully, Darlene Candy, beating and slapping Lufuno who did not fight back but rather tried to shield herself. Other girls cheered Darlene on, with some going as far as to record the incident.

Police officers stated that “The child arrived home from school and alleged that she was beaten up by the other learner. Thereafter, she allegedly locked herself up in the room and overdosed on [prescription pills] reported IOL.

It is alleged that the bullying had been going on for some time according to Lufuno’s father.

Darlene Candy has since commented about the incident on Facebook.

#Lufuno is now trending as people are furious over the absolute devastation bullying can result in, as well as the fact that instead of protecting someone, the action taken was to press the record button.
