There are 30 more coronavirus-related deaths recorded in South Africa as of May 21, says the Department of Health.
In a statement, Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize announced that the total number of positive cases is now 19 137 as of May 21. A confirmed 63.5% of these cases are from the Western Cape alone. The Western Cape currently has 12 153 cases, according to government data. Approximately 8 950 people have recovered.
The case data is as follows:
A total of 525 433 tests have been conducted to date, with 18 572 tests completed in the past 24 hours.
There have also been 30 more deaths as of today [May 21], bringing the total national deaths to 369. Of these deaths, 235 are from the Western Cape. In a media breifing today, May 21, Mkhize announced that 25 of the deaths came from the Western Cape and the remainding 5 from the Eastern Cape.
“We wish to express our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and thank the health care workers who treated these patients,” says Mkhize in a statement.
