The Western Cape health department says there has been a 5% increase in positive COVID-19 cases in the province ahead of the Easter weekend.

According to EWN, the provincial health department said a 16% rise has been recorded in the Cape metros in the past seven days.

The report, however, quoted head of provincial health Dr Keith Colette as saying that admissions and deaths continued to decrease, with a 22% and 62% drop respectively in the last week.

News24 reported earlier this week that the occupancy of COVID-19 beds in metropole was 15%, 16% in the George drainage area, 21% in the Paarl district and 23% in the Worcester drainage area.
