As COVID-19 cases continue to rise and a third wave apparently imminent for the Western Cape, schools appear to have been hit the hardest with nearly 450 active cases.
On June 19, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga held a media briefing where she provided an update on the basic education sector’s response to the impact of COVID-19 on schools.
According to a live update by News24, Mokshekga stated that the vaccination programme for educators will take place with immediate effect and will start rolling out next Wednesday until the closure of schools for the term.
While the option for vaccination will be provided to all educators and support staff, it will be voluntary. The initial plan is to see 582 000 people within the sector vaccinated over 10 to 14 days.
The vaccination rollout will begin Wednesday, June 23, until July 8.
There are five hundred and eighty-two thousand (582 000) personnel who will be vaccinated over 10 to 14 days. We encourage all educators and school staff to register to receive their vaccines #VaccinateToSaveSouthAfrica #VaccineRegistration @GovernmentZA @SAgovnews https://t.co/VusCQnnrI3
