A man who has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Scarborough surfer made a brief court appearance on Tuesday. The accused appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on suspicion of committing the brutal act, which happened last week.
The surfer was allegedly hijacked by two assailants, and murdered by one, near Kommetjie. He was last seen surfing in Witsand.
The alleged killer was arrested over the weekend, and was found in possession of the victim’s car keys, an illegal firearm and ammunition.
He was charged with the murder of the surfer, robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
It is alleged that two hijackers shot the surfer before placing his body in the boot of his car and driving off. The car was later found torched.
