Members of the ANC in the Western Cape are allegedly planning to lay fraud charges against City of Cape Town (COCT) mayoral committee member for Safety and Security JP Smith.
Smith is the latest Democratic Alliance (DA) member to be in the spotlight after his qualifications came under fire regarding an inaccurate biography which allegedly stated that he had an Honours degree in English from Stellenbosch University. However, Smith has allegedly not completed this qualification due to dropping out as soon as he became a politician.
As reported by News 24, ANC MP Cameron Dugmore said in a statement that it is unbelievable that the mayco member was not aware of this misrepresentation on his biography. According to Dugmore, the ANC will lay criminal charges against him on Monday, June 14 and expect the police to investigate the matter expeditiously.
Meanwhile, Smith indicated that opposition parties are trying to drag the story out of proportion as he has committed no criminal offence.
This is a developing story.
