Capetonians rejoiced when the rain fell in the drought-stricken city today. Up to 20mm was expected in the crucial mountain catchment areas like Steenbras.

The Mother City has been facing the worst drought in 100 years and if Day Zero arrives, will the the first city in the world to run out of drinkable water. Currently the city has level 6 water restrictions in place, allowing locals to use only 50 liters of water, per person, per day.

The downpour is no excuse to let water saving efforts slip though, as the City of Cape Town warned we are far from out of the woods in terms of the water shortage.

Usage increased by 5% last week, leaving damn levels suffering. Social media reacted accordingly about the rainfall…

While back home in Europe the temperatures rise and today is hot summer day, on the Southern hemisphere and mainly in Western Cape and the city of Cape Town where I currently am, the people experience the worst drought since records. So today, I am glad to share a rainy but very positive photo. The rainfall of today will not solve the water crisis but in the week I have been in Cape Town I have become more water conscious. Something we should all do as every drop counts. Hopefully todays rain will be the start of a very rainy winter season for the Mother City! • • • #travelismyoxygen #traveltheworld #creatememories #wanderlust #explore #discover #travelgram #photooftheday #travelphotography #instatravel #followtravelismyoxygen #followformore #epic #travelboy #naturephotography #travelgoals #beyondborders #igers #collectstamps #igworld #planetearth #travelwithme #traveladdict #moretocome #followmyig #lovecapetown #everydropcounts #capetownrain #southafrica #drought
