Two police officers were reportedly assaulted by an angry crowd in Mfuleni after the City of Cape Town law enforcement officials demolished illegally erected shacks on Sunday.

EWN reported on Monday, April 5 that the officers were pelted with stones and later, their vehicle was set alight.

The two were receiving medical treatment and no arrests have been made, the report said.

Such incidents are not rare in Mfuleni.

Last year four suspects shot and killed a warrant officer after they demanded that he handed over his firearm.

Sowetan Live reported at the time that the suspects asked the victim for his firearm and when he told them he did not keep it at home, one of them shot him in the head.
