Months after Heidi Scheepers and her two children died when their car plunged off a cliff in Voëlklip, Herold’s Bay, another person has reportedly driven off a cliff in the same area.

According to Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie, police and emergency services discovered pieces of a white vehicle and the body of a male lying on the rocks.

A rescue operation is currently underway to retrieve the man’s deceased body from the rocks below. Speaking to News24, George police spokesperson Captain Nolonwabo Tshengu explained that an eyewitness reported a sighting of a man driving off the cliff early Wednesday morning. He is reportedly the ninth victim to plunge from the cliff in the past four years.

“The information that we have is that it is a hired vehicle, a Ford EcoSport, driven by a white male. The identity of the driver is unknown,” she said.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies says that they are investigating the the incident but do not suspect foul play at this point.

This is yet another tragic accident in the area. In October 2019, a mother and her two children were in a car crash in the area. While the bodies of the mother and son were recovered, the daughter was never found. In December 2019, the body of another woman in her mid 50s was found at Voëlklip near Herold’s Bay after her car reportedly crashed off the cliff.
