A man who is believed to be a member of the National Christian Resistance Movement (also known as the “Crusaders”) was arrested on Thursday in Kuils River.

The movement is termed as a white-supremacist group, originally operating from Mpumalanga.

According to Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi of the Hawks, the man arrested was in possession of illegal weapons and explosives.

“The suspect is believed to have links with the other four suspects who have already been arrested and charged for alleged terrorist activities,” he said.

A Hawks investigation has been underway the past two years, looking into an alleged terrorist plot “apparently co-ordinated by the group to target national key points, shopping malls and informal settlements,” Mulaudzi added.

The 46-year-old man is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Four other members of the group have thus far been arrested, and investigations continue.
