Hikers have repeatedly been requested to avoid this area because it is a crime hotspot.
In February this year, a hiker was allegedly shot in the leg and robbed of his personal possessions while hiking through Kleinplaas Dam during the afternoon.
During the incident earlier this year, two hikers – a woman aged 64 and a man aged 51 – were hiking when two young men pointed a firearm at them, then robbed them of their cellphones, money, and backpacks. It is alleged that when the victims turned around to walk away, one of the suspects randomly fired a shot at the man which hit him in his left leg.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
