It tolls for Travis Kuhn.
If there’s ever been a good excuse to not put Christmas decorations up in shopping malls, this is probably it. Travis Kuhn organises bar and cocktail events, and had just carried a set of equipment up an escalator at the V&A at around 7 am yesterday, when the giant bell came tumbling down just seconds later.
Kuhn took a photo of the bell – as one does after narrowly escaping certain death – and posted it to his Facebook page with the caption, ‘Hmmmmmm. Perhaps I’ll play the power ball tonight. Shew!!’
V&A Waterfront spokesperson, Carla White, told News24 that no one was injured in the incident, and they will conduct a ‘full inspection and assessment’ of all festive décor.
I wonder if they can do a review of their choice of Boney M Christmas music while they’re at it?

why was it not tightly secured in the first place?
The installation team followed all standard procedures but still something gave way so we are currently investigating how it happened. We fully understand the concerns this would raise around similar décor installed throughout the mall so we have since performed a full assessment with engineers on all other installations to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
Haha, funny enough my dad and i were chatting about this when we werw at the V&A
V & A Waterfront Thanks for this thorough and prompt response. And we were just joking about the Boney M 🙂
