At least 94 092 vaccines have been administered in the Western Cape, Premier Alan Winde has said, as the province continues with phase 2 of its vaccination programme.

“By 5pm on 17 May 2021, 94 092 vaccines had been administered in the Western Cape,” Winde said.

The Western Cape government released a list of seven vaccination sites over the weekend, with Winde saying these had been identified to be functional during the first week.

These included Brooklyn Chest Hospital, Helderberg Hospital, Mitchells Plain Hospital, Khayelitsha Hospital, Karl Bremer Hospital, Brackenfell Clinic, and Albow Gardens Clinic.

“Over the next few weeks, as part of our scale-up, more vaccination sites will come online including in rural areas, to provide vaccination service to those who have registered,” said Winde.

Meanwhile, the province recorded nine additional deaths since Monday, May 17, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 11 720.

Winde said the province had 3 005 active COVID-19 infections, with a total of 290 371 people having been infected with the virus to date.

“As of 1pm on 18 May 2021, the Western Cape has 3 005 active COVID-19 infections, with a total of 290 371 people having been infected with COVID-19 to date and 275 658 recoveries.” he said.
