The Shoprite store in Athlone has closed until further notice after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
“After one of our colleagues at Shoprite Athlone tested positive for Covid-19, we closed this store,” Shoprite Group said in a statement, “We have informed The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the Department of Health.”
According to Radio 786, the Shoprite Group confirmed the case and said that the store was closed immediately. Those who were in contact with the infected person were places on 14-day self-quarantine.
A decontamination company has been brought in to sanitise and deep clean the store. It will re-open once determined safe by the Western Cape Health Department.
This is the second store Shoprite has had to close with a store in Bothasig closing after an employee tested positive earlier this month.
