A gang war that broke out in Atlantis on Monday reportedly left at least three people dead in less than 24 hours.

According to IOL, in one of the incidents, the body of a man believed to be in his late 20s was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the bushes at Dassenberg Drive and Hoop Crescent in Saxon Sea.

The other two victims’ bodies were found in Avondale. One of the men was found gunned down at a bus stop. He had multiple gunshots.

Residents raised concern over their safety following the shootings.

This came a few weeks after the residents accused police in the area of brutality and not serving the community.

Gangsters

According to EWN, the residents said they had lost faith in the police, claiming that the cops victimised them daily.

Some said they had even resorted to not approaching the local police station anymore, as they knew they would never get the assistance they wanted.

“Our justice system has failed us big time. Our police are not helping our people at all, they can’t keep our area safe. They can’t come up against the gangsters in our areas,” one of the residents was quoted as saying.

Western Cape police admitted that the situation in Atlantis was concerning, adding that a new station commander had since been appointed and “we’ll make a difference in that area”.
