In 2007, Billabong became the first company to make boardshorts from recycled P.E.T bottles. This spring, the environmentally-conscious company will be taking this a step further by moving to producing all of its boardshorts from 100% recycled P.E.T from now on.

This move is part of the company’s efforts to become more eco-friendly and address the plastic plague that is gripping our oceans worldwide.

The brand’s new shorts will be produced to be better for the ocean and will be a reminder to beachgoers of their duty to keep the oceanic environment plastic-free.

When making these boardshorts, Billabong first takes recycled P.E.T bottles and breaks them down into pellets, which are spun into yarn. This yarn is then woven into fabric, which is finally sewn into stylish boardshorts.

From Spring 2019 onwards, every time you buy a pair of Billabong boardshorts you can happily know that you have helped take a few bottles out of the ocean and paid towards the recycling of plastic.
