Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) and other emergency services were at the scene shortly after it was spotted by passersby. By late afternoon a large part of central Cape Town and the southern suburbs were clouded in smoke, with an immense plume visible above Table Mountain.
Yesterday morning crews were still on-site monitoring flare-ups.
