An international businessman is in a serious condition in hospital after an explosive device detonated under the seat of his Range Rover.
According to reports, the man was driving through Westlake, Cape Town when the device exploded. The incident is said to have taken place at 12.30pm this afternoon, and South African Police Services’ (SAPS) Bomb Squad and K9 Unit responded to the scene.
“It is alleged that the victim left his house from Stonehurst Estate and while driving towards Ou Kaapse weg on Steenberg Road the vehicle exploded. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition,” SAPS’ Captain FC Van Wyk told News24. “At this stage this office cannot confirm what caused the explosion.”
The area is currently being combed for clues.

According to Richard Coleman, spokesman from the City’s Traffic Services, Steenberg Road between Ou Kaapse Weg and Westlake Road have been temporarily closed.
