November of last year saw the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation uncover 268 000 mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of over R10.7 million, wrapped in brown boxes destined for Cape Town.

Hawks were called by warehouse management in Kempton Park for investigation regarding suspicious cargo delivered for shipment.

Ah Kin Geemooi, 58, appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ court on charges of illegal dealing in drugs on May 27. Geemooi was released on bail after handing himself in.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Jerome MacCarthy, 47, who was the consignments intended recipient in Cape Town during a controlled delivery executed by an investigation team in Cape Town.

Both Geemooi and MacCarthy were granted R50 000 bail each. The case has been postponed to September 29 2021 for further investigation.
