Changes to the national cabinet will be announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa at 10pm tonight, the briefing at the Union Buildings in Pretoria was set down for 8.30pm tonight but was delayed by a new report.
Today it was confirmed that David Mabuza, Zweli Mkhize and former finance minister Nhlahla Nene will be sworn in as Members of Parliament on Tuesday, clarifying their positioning in the new cabinet.
Rumours are rife that Mabuza will be the new deputy president of South Africa. During his maiden State of the Nation Address, Ramaphosa said that he would be cutting down his cabinet. The country has waited with baited breath to see who will be chopped and who will make up the new cabinet.
Mineral Resources minister Mosebenzi Zwane, Communications minister Faith Muthambi, Co-operative Governance minister Des van Rooyen and Finance minister Malusi Gigaba are on the chopping block according to analysts.
The delay in the announcement this evening related to a report received by the Presidency regarding Minister van Rooyen.
Following receipt of a report from the Public Protector on an investigation into allegations of violation of the Executive Ethics Code by Minister Van Rooyen, President Ramaphosa has submitted a copy of the report to the Speaker of the National Assembly. https://t.co/sro84gBoPb
