The Hanover Park community policing forum is reportedly calling for decisive action to deal with gang violence.
This comes after a 4-year-old girl, was shot and wounded in the face by gangsters in the area on Thursday last week.
EWN reported on Monday that the girl remained in hospital with serious injuries.
She was among four other people who were also shot and wounded on the same day. The four had since been discharged from the hospital.
Residents were in the courtyard when gangsters unexpectedly opened fire indiscriminately, Hanover Park community policing forum chairperson Ebhrahim Abhahams was quoted as saying.
One man was arrested following the incident.
News24 reported that the shooting was part of an internal gang conflict in the area.
“Unfortunately, innocent people were injured in the crossfire,” Abrahams said.
Abrahams called on SAPS to work with the community to tackle gang violence and said it was critical in making communities safer.
The Western Cape Department of Community Safety deployed at least 60 law enforcement officers to Hanover Park last year to assist the police in joint operations.
The officers were expected to remain there for the next three years.
