We may still be in winter, but yesterday we were given a taste of summer, and man does it feel great. Summers in Cape Town are always glorious. The outdoor adventures, the late sunsets and all the amazing tourists that flock to our city to stimulate our economy. In the wake of the busy summer season, Cape Point is undergoing upgrades to ensure they are ready.

Traveller24 reports the popular tourist attraction is currently getting upgraded to the tune of an estimated R34 million. The upgrades should help enhance the visitor experience and are expected to be completed by summer.

Cape-Point-3

Most of the funds allocated to Cape Point are going towards the main gate and upgrading the roads. An additional lane is being added to the main gate and the road will be expanded to ease congestion flow.

SANParks Cape Region’s Tarcia Hendricks says that upgrades to the Cape of Good Hope will also affect Cape Point. Their water line and sewerage system are being redone and all ablution facilities are also getting an upgrade. The Cape Point lighthouse will undergo its annual maintenance as well.

Cape-Point

While the upgrades are taking place, people who are travelling the Cape Point Route should be aware of delays. There is a stop/go traffic management system in place while the roadworks are done. If you find yourself waiting at the stop/go point, and feeling a little annoyed, think about how wonderful it will be when the upgrades are done and you can access Cape Point easily. It won’t be long, summer is just around the corner!

Very true Mpendulo but tourism is one of the biggest contributors to our country’s growth, particularly Cape Town tourism. What would make more sense is to stamp out corruption and the theft of millions and millions of Rands which would benefit our people.

I would like to see people joining Secret Cape Town!!
Since Cape Town was behind on the “Facebook community” thing, I decided to catch this great city up with the rest of the world. This page is for everything Cape Town related: asking questions, meeting new people, posting room share ads, giving safety updates, etc. I encourage you to join in and add other Capetonians!
P.S. If you are worried about too many notifications, you are welcome to turn them off.

Make more accommodations for this disabled. I came there last year and your staff vehicle conveniently parked in a disabled parking bay and completely ignored the fact that we needed that bay. Not impressed at all.

That money could be used to build homes for the destitute or for pensioners or feeding schemes for the homeless.
However if its going to be spent on upgrading the city why not use it to beautify Robben Island which is a barren wasteland. Fill it with beautiful vegetation greenery landscaping hotels water features etc make it beautiful drawing attention to the place where Nelson Mandella and other historic people sacrificed many years of their lives to change the history of this country – don’t destroy the history, just beautify the surroundings.

I hear you guys…. and am truly aware as a person who studied tourism… the site has never run at a lose.. meaning is it that 34mil will do that 17mil cant do.. i’d silented if we was told out of 68mil 50/50 was thrown if such and such.. including the uplifting of those in no hope.. 34/34mil – 17/17mil mmmmmm atleast its something… thats shows something was done…. 34mil… what are they doing putting aircons the out the whole attraction… might as well build a mini Nkandla whilst they at it..

I do not agree, it doesn’t have to remain barren, its ugly. If ‘nature’ intended it to be that way then there shouldn’t be a Chapman’s peak or whatever, there is lots of scope to beautify the surroundings. I’ve seen little islands like that looking stunning with more vegetation.
I still believe though that money like that should be put to use to uplift the quality of life to the less fortunate.

Road is taking long, hasn’t been upgraded in over 15 years if not longer, the upgrades are sorely needed at Africa’s number one natural attraction (Table Mountain National Park of which the Cape of Good Hope National Park is part). The facility cannot cope with the increasing number of people visiting. December through to March is insane with an expected waiting time of close to 90min just to get in. Another entrance point is needed 2 km down the road (closer to Scarborough side) hopefully with as little impact on the environment as possible
