It’s not much, but it sure counts. Yesterday the City of Cape Town announced that the scheduled Stage 1 loadshedding by Eskom would be curbed due to spare generation capacity at the Steenbras power station.
As far as I know, and I stand toΒ be corrected, this is the first time that a city has effectively ‘beat’ loadshedding through effective power and resource management.
LOAD-SHEDDING ALERT: Load-shedding will be avoided tonight due to spare generation capacity at the Steenbras power station.

Eskom announced on Sunday that Stage 1 loadshedding would be implemented from 5 pm through to 10 pm.
I’m not entirely sure why there was spare capacity at the Steenbras power station and what made yesterday different to any other day, but this move by the city surely indicates there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for us.
Yeah Cape Town! “Wonder why we don’t have load shedding today?” – my words yesterday π
Well done Cape Town! Where there’s a will (and good government) there’s a way
The ruling party when it comes to delivery!! Hats off! City of Cape Town!
I know that Wellington had loadshedding last night??
Ja die Wellington Studente moes maar gaan slaap
Method to their madness. …….
Well done – the rest of the country take note,Eskom is not a dictatorship!
Almal wat onder Kaapstad munisipaliteit val het die naweek nie beurtkrag gehad nie. Hulle het genoeg krag gestoor vir as dit nodig is.
Well done!
Danielle Meilhon Gerber.
And Cape Town also allowed residents in our area to watch the rugby on Saturday right to the end by only cutting the power at 19:00 instead of 18:00
I hate being an Eskom Direct customer π load shedded during the rugby.
Well done to the only province not governed by the ANC. It shows, doesn’t it? π
Toshina Vanmari we got this
Thats one of the reasons I live here
thank you City of Cape Town for being well run by the DA yayayay
Thanks to the DA.We support you guys all the way.Keep up the good work.We must generate our own power here in Cape Town even if we paying more initially.
Well Done Cape Town .. you show them how it is done!!
Only COCT clients had none – Eskom direct customers had load shedding .
At least someone is awake and being pro-active.
Yay! Go Cape Town City!
Privilege to be a Capetonian! Thank you. Amazing!!

By bloody time , why must we who pay suffer
Hmmmm
Thank goodness
what a way to live.
Thanks to the team we appreciate your efforts to ensure a normal lifestyle
….soooo…what happened today? π
Fantastic! Thank you!
You would have to live in an area where the city provides the electricity. Definitely not Blouberg, Table View or Bothasig as these are direct ESKOM areas.
This is becoming a spin story. It happened once over the weekend. Last night in Cape Town we went to stage 2 after proudly announcing that we would avoid it too. When it becomes consistent here in CPT I think then we can start milking it as a story.
what happened last night at 8pm then??????????????????
Karishma Nandha finally!
I really hope it’s true
Except for last night….. really thought CoCT is now showing Eksdom the finger by utilising Steenbras to provide power during loadshedding at night
