From the wine farms and downtown restaurants of Franschoek to the souvenir shops, restaurants and hiking trails of Cape Point, seeing these surrounds of Cape Town are must-do’s when visiting the city and indeed a fun excursion for residents of the Mother City to have lying just a drive away. But if you’re going wine tasting in one of the many beautiful wine farms Franschoek has to offer, or if you’re heading to Cape Point and just want the liberty to enjoy a drink or two, transportation becomes the number one issue.

Affordable transportation to these great destinations is often a thorn in the side for tourists and Capetonians alike, but that might just become a thing of the past thanks to Cape Comoot.

The company has launched a new shuttle which provides both locals and tourists with transportation to Franschoek and Cape Point from Greenmarket Square for only R99 for a one-way trip. They’re looking to expand services to Stellenbosch and Hermanus too.

Cape Comoot co-owner Yolandie Le Grange, says that providing an affordable shuttle service “is part of our bold business model”. Co-owner Martin Bo Nielsen, also the founder of Cape Town Free Walking Tours, says that he and Le Grange want to provide tourists in South Africa with affordable public transport to tourist sites that are outside of the city centre, “the independent travellers also want to go straight to their destination, without the inconvenience of sitting through twenty stops along the way or taking a bus” says Nielsen.

The low prices of Cape Comoot’s shuttles don’t affect the quality of service either. The company currently has a system of drivers whose shuttles provide customers with the comfort of air conditioning, free WiFi and charging stations.

Overpriced transportation to popular destinations may very well fall away if Cape Comoot sticks around and expands these shuttle routes to favourable attractions around outlying Cape Town.
