It seems Cape Town’s traffic woes are not going anywhere, with a new INRIX Global Traffic Scorecard ranking the Mother City among the world’s top 30 most congested cities.

While the Mother City received a ranking of 29 for overall traffic congestion on a global scale, the seaside city was ranked as the number one most congested metropole in the country.

The Global Traffic Scorecard considers 7 continents, 43 countries and over 975 cities in its round-up of the world’s most congested places.

According to INRIX, Capetonian drivers spend an average of 124 hours in traffic a year, a far cry from Johannesburg’s 74 hours a year (second place) or Pretoria’s 65 hours (third place). The City also ranked in 24th place worldwide for the hours lost in traffic.

In the 2018 scorecard, Cape Town was ranked in 32nd place, showing that the Mother City’s traffic problem is slowly but surely getting worse.

Capetonians might feel worse for wear when they take to the roads either to work or home at the end of the day, but our daily struggles are far from the worst in the world.

Bogota, Colombia received the “honour” of the world’s most congested city, spending 191 hours a year in traffic.
