A staff member of the Montevideo Primary School in Cape Town has died of COVID-19 on Saturday, June 27.
“It is with heavy hearts that we wish to express our deepest and sincerest condolences to the Montevideo Primary School community as well as the family of grade 7 teacher, Mr Klink, who passed away this week as a result of COVID-19 complications,” the South African Council for Educators posted on Facebook.
The school announced on Wednesday, June 24 that one of its teachers tested positive for the virus and announced on Friday, June 26 that two positive cases were reported at the school, while a third staff member was awaiting test results, according to IOL.
The school shared a tribute to Mr Gregory Klink on Facebook, with several of his colleagues writing touching comments. “Always smiling and laughing,” wrote one teacher. “A great loss for Montevideo and a father figure to many,” wrote another.
After various calls for schools to close again for the safety of staff and learners, Montevideo Primary is reportedly planning protest action on Robert Sobukwe Drive on Tuesday, June 30, according to IOL.
