An interesting architectural design is in the works and could feature a parking solution, which would be the first of its kind in South Africa.
The development, named Breebloem Tower, is to be located on the corner of Bree and Bloem Streets, and will almost certainly turn heads with its unique aesthetic. With swiveling levels of parking space, the design incorporates a central core, providing space for lifts, stairs and services to accommodate commercial space and apartments. It also twists as it rises, utilising the most out of space and providing better view angles.
Structural engineers Henry Fagan and Partners first mooted the plan from as early as 2009, but progress on the project fell by the wayside. Now, the idea has been revisted and updated with a fresh, structurally-sound design, but it is important to note that development is still a proposal. Despite advanced talks between the engineering firm and the City of Cape Town for construction to begin in 2018, nothing has been confirmed.
