Cape Town has scooped up yet another accolade, this time from National Geographic. Our city is in the #2 spot on the publication’s list of the top 10 beach cities in the world, second only to Barcelona and coming out on top over cities like Miami, Honolulu, Rio and Tel Aviv. The only justification I could find as to why Barcelona pipped us to the title was ‘with layers of architectural wonders, cutting-edge cuisine, and buzzing nightlife, Barcelona would be a world-class city even without the eight white-sand beaches that rim its Mediterranean coastline’. Not much of a justification – I’m pretty sure that Cape Town has all of that and more.

It is really no surprise that we (nearly) won. Even in winter our beaches still attract extreme sport enthusiasts the world over and, if you’re lucky enough, catching a 6 pm sunset at Clifton on an unseasonal hot winter’s day is heaven. You can view all the top contenders here. Well done Cape Town!

Can you believe that we’re already in February? Look out for a special Valentine’s Day post from us this week as we count down to the special day. Also remember to check in with our load shedding guide from Eskom about proposed load-shedding times for Cape Town in February.

Have a super Monday!

Cheers
Justin

I feel blessed to have been born in Cape Town, to have travelled extensively and lived in some beautiful countries, among them Australia and New Zealand. But Cape Town will always be home and there’s not a day that I take for granted the energy from the mountain and the absolute gem of a coastline that allows me to enjoy all nature’s most coveted riches – at any time of the day – and without any cost.
