The City of Cape Town is recognizing the need for a future involving high-speed internet to create an environment of economic growth. That is, of course, if Eskom comes to the party and lets us imagine a future involving fibre-optic connectivity in the private sector.
Below is a snapshot of the City of Cape Town’s broadband roll-out in numbers:
As stated by the city, we are now at the point where the fibre-optic network is robust and extensive enough to be leveraged off to the private sector. Ultimately what this means is that we could be seeing a positive boost in terms of high-speed internet being accessible to all.

Where can I apply to be connected
Wait a little while, it is very expensive at the moment!
Sounds all very nice – but we need to increase the peering speeds to Jhb and more importantly through the UK, US and Indian international peering points. Without additional bandwidth and massively reduced contention ratios local high speed internet isn’t really going to help much. But it sounds cool.
thanks. very interesting and useful
