As you know (due the many road closures,) the Cape Town Cycle Tour happened yesterday. Over 35 000 cyclists from all over came to be part of the gruelling 109 km challenge that is the largest individually timed race in the world, but it was a local who took top honours in the end. Clint Hendricks, of RoadCover won the race, finishing the race in 2hr 35min 52secs.
According to the Cape Times, Hendricks hails from Paarl and this is his first victory. He sped past Nolan Hoffman, denying him a hat-trick of wins, as he won in both 2014 and 2015. The female race was won by An-li Kachelhoffer, of Pretoria Box who finished the race in 2 hr 51 min 26 secs. She also beat defending champion, Lynette Burge, to claim top honours according to Sport24.
It was a beautiful day on Sunday, and thousands of people came out to support the cyclists as they raced across the Peninsula. Here are some scenes from the day:
