Firefighters are integral and lifesaving members of the Mother City community. However, the same men and women who fight protect our home, now need the help of the public as they face mass dismissal.

There is an urgent call to members of the public to fight for the firefighters of the City of Cape Town (COCT) as they face possible dismissals. It is alleged that 525 firefighters will be let go.

These are the same firefighters who risked their lives while battling the recent Table Mountain blaze.

Fighterfighters have been in a dispute with the COCT for the past two years over long working hours. Meanwhile, a petition has been set up by one Capetonian woman to help save their jobs.

Melanie Johann said: “So, whether they did something or did not do anything they are all [going] to be dismissed by the City for incitement.

“I am doing this petition as the people need to rise up and help them save their jobs! With the pandemic, our City wants to dismiss such a huge number of firefighters and their families must suffer.”

If you want to make your voice heard and help save these firefighters jobs you can sign the petition here.
