Capitec customers are urged to be extra cautious, as a new scam has emerged that is robbing people of their money.
EWN reports that customers have reported calls from people claiming to be from Capitec’s anti-fraud division. The fraudsters allege that there has been an attempt to commit fraud on the account or that a stop order has been loaded without their consent.
They then ask customers to allow them to block the activity by approving the confirmation messages they sent to their banking app by supplying their PIN number.
Customers are then unknowingly lead through a transaction process, in which the fraudster transfers funds to their own account.
In a tweet, the bank reminded its customers that they would never ask for personal details like a pin number over the phone. If you receive a call like this, Capitec advises you do not give out details and end the call.
A bank will NEVER call you & ask you for your personal details, your PIN number or to approve transactions. You should never entertain such calls but rather remain calm & drop the call. Keep your personal banking details, such as PIN numbers, safe at all times. #BankSafety pic.twitter.com/0UEntuxg42
