Maryam Dadarker decided to turn her catering company Ramzi’s Food into a kitchen to help feed thousands of people across the Cape Flats communities during this difficult lockdown period.
“We received a few calls regarding people that were struggling and needed food and because we were no longer able to trade as a catering company, we decided to turn it into a feeding scheme,” said Dadarker.
Supported by her husband Waseem, she has been making large pots of food at their home in Pinelands to help those who are struggling to get the food they need.
“We have received calls from all kinds of people. Those looking for food and those wanting to donate. We are so grateful to all the donors and sponsors. We would never be able to do this without the grace of the Almighty and without all the donations and sponsors we receive daily to cook all of these pots of food,” she said.
These are then distributed to the families that need it in Mitchells Plain, Hanover Park and Uitsig/Cravenby areas.
“We would like to thank Fearless Security. They have been assisting us daily to deliver and hand out the food to various areas. They have sacrificed their time away from home, breaking their fast on the road while seeing to the needy,” she said.
“We will be cooking throughout Ramadaan as it is a month of charity. It is a norm for us to cook during this month every year. We would also like to continue this throughout the lockdown, if possible,” said Dadarker.
If you would like to contribute, they are taking donations and assistance with distribution from those who have the necessary permits. Follow Ramzi’s Food on Facebook and Instagram to see their incredible work and find out how you can assist.
