Police have viewed CCTV footage of missing Norwegian student Marie Ostbo, walking by herself towards a Sedgefield beach. The 21-year-old was last seen on April 18, at Myoli Beach on the Garden Route, approximately 100 metres away from the backpacker’s lodge where she and a group of fellow international students were staying.
Police later discovered her cellphone, cap and shoes on the beach during their search. Footage shows Ostbo leaving a restaurant where she was having supper. She then walks towards the beach and that is the last anyone has seen of her.
A helicopter, police and dive search was conducted to find Ostbo, but there is still no sign of her.
Her father, Atle Ostbo, told the Norwegian Dagbladet last week that they have not given up hope. He fears his daughter may have been attacked, but is still hopeful that she will be found.
Atle said the group of students had gone for a walk in the early evening but returned to the backpacker’s lodge when the weather took a turn for the worst. Marie, however, had stayed outside to take photographs with a new camera she had purchased especially for the trip.
The group only realised that Ostbo had not rejoined them after 30 minutes.
An investigative task team has been set up to follow leads, but so far, police have come up empty-handed.
